Bruce Springsteen hated being called “The Boss”

Springsteen acquired his famous nickname “The Boss” during a period when his bands played club gigs and he would have to take on the task of collecting their nightly pay and distributing it among his band mates. Others report that it sprang from games of Monopoly that Springsteen would play with other Jersey Shore musicians.

Bruce is apparently not fond of it due to his dislike of bosses (he identifies himself, his music and his fans with the average working-class man) but seems to have tacitly accepted it.

Previously he had another nickname, “Doctor”.
