“Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” was translated into “It’s Raining Falafel” in Israel

Many movies receive strange translations abroad and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is one of them.

Since meatballs are not something Israelis can relate to, they had to find an equivalent of a local food staple: falafel (similar-looking, deep-fried balls made from ground chickpeas, fava beans, or both).

“It’s raining falafel” is also a reference to a famous American song, “It’s raining men” by The Weather Girls and covered by Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
