December 11 is both Mountain Day and International Day of Tango

December 11 is International Mountain Day, designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2003 to encourage “the international community to organize events at all levels on that day to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development.”

However, Mountain Day is a public holiday in Japan and is celebrated on a different day, August 11.

December 11 is also the International Day of Tango, the most famous music style to come out of Argentina and Uruguay. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthdays of two men: composer and director Julio de Caro and the very famous singer Carlos Gardel.
