Mandela about the Spice Girls: “They’re my heroes”

At the height of their career, after having released only 1 album, the Spice Girls traveled to South Africa to meet Nelson Mandela, along with Prince Charles.

One of the most surprising things that were said at that time might have been Mel B comparing their “girl power quest” with the anti-apartheid movement… but there was something else: Mandela famously said that he didn’t want to get emotional but:

This is one of the greatest moments of my life.

Mandela was a very funny man and although many took it seriously, other journalists thought he was just joking.
