Nigerien women have an average of 7 children, the world's highest rate

Fertility rate shows the average number of children born to women during their childbearing years.

The private and non-profit organization Population Reference Bureau publishes statistics on the evolution of the fertility rate between 1970 and today. According to their stats, women from Niger have an average of 7 children, the world’s highest rate, followed by other African nations such as Somalia, Mali, and Chad.

The lowest correspond to the Czech Republic, Sweden, Croatia, and Finland.
