Siri means a beautiful woman that leads you to victory

In the old Norse language, Siri was “a beautiful woman that leads you to victory”. That’s the meaning of the name of Apple’s famous virtual assistant.

Although the name was taken from the research institute “SRI”, Siri’s Norwegian CEO decided to keep it because he liked that meaning, and his co-founder also liked what it meant in another language: it was Swahili for “secret”.

When Apple acquired the company in 2010, they kept it even though reports indicate that Steve Jobs didn’t like the name.
