The term “web surfing” was popularized by a NY librarian

We’ve all heard the term “surfing” on the internet or “web surfing”.

No-one knows who the first person to ever say the term was but a New York librarian named Jean Armour Polly is usually credited with coining the term because she popularized it.

Apparently, Polly came up with it when she was writing about accessing the web; she had an Apple mousepad with the image of a surfer.

Even today, the term is used quite often, but other words such as “browsing” are more common. In Spanish, the term navegar (sailing) is widely used.
